Dr. Sabrina Steiner

Postdoctoral Researcher

I am a biologist with a Master Degree in Genetics, which I completed at the University of Zurich. As a graduate student, I worked at the department of Surgery and Transplantation, University Hospital Zurich and recently was awarded my PhD in Cancer Biology from the University of Zurich. My dissertation research focused on exploring the role of two gastric tumor suppressors in the development of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. Using genetically modified mice, I contributed in the understanding of molecular events activated by these proteins and furthermore, explored their potential as early diagnostic markers.

In my current role as postdoctoral fellow in the Systems Pathology- Functional Tumor Pathology lab, I am investigating new therapeutic strategies for pancreatic cancer patients. Using genomic approaches and functional testing in patient-derived tumor organoids, we can reveal pathways associated with tumor sensitivity and resistance. Overall, we aim to understand disease mechanisms and identify patient-specific drug responses.
